Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are excited to announce that Pickering Christian School will once again be hosting the SickKids CALIPER Project on Thursday, May 9th. This initiative, which we participated in 5 years ago, is led by The Hospital for Sick Children and aims to enhance the diagnosis and care for children with medical concerns by establishing reference intervals (normal ranges) for blood test interpretation in children. The study and participation of students is completely voluntary and at the discretion of parents.
What is the CALIPER Study?
The CALIPER Study is a nationwide initiative focused on improving pediatric healthcare through collaborative efforts with community partnerships and families. To date, over 14,000 children and adolescents have participated in this groundbreaking project. Learn more at www.caliperproject.ca.
Who Can Participate?
Children and adolescents ages 0 - 18 years are eligible to participate in the CALIPER Project.
What's Required to Participate?
Participation involves a quick 15-minute process
1. Informed parental/guardian consent.
2. A short health questionnaire
3. A small blood sample (1 tbsp)
Participants will receive:
1. A letter of Thanks from SickKids Hospital
2. Choice of a CALIPER t-shirt or teddy bear
*Additionally, for every child that participates, a $10 donation will be made on their behalf to SickKids Hospital through the CALIPER Project in support of this vital research.
