Music is an important element at PCS, beginning in Junior Kindergarten and continuing right through to Grade Eight. The music program at PCS offers your child formal training in vocal, rhythm and instrumental.
- JK, SK, Grades 1-3: Your child will enjoy an introduction to vocal music with an emphasis on rhythm and motion.
- Grade 4: Instrumental instruction begins in the fourth grade. Focus is on learning the recorder.
- Grade 5: Instrumental instruction continues with a focus on the ukulele.
- Grades 6 – 8: Instrumental instruction continues but with a switch in focus to concert band instruments.
When your child is ready to graduate he/she will have three years of concert band experience. Many graduates continue on with advanced music studies in High School.
Your child will also have the opportunity to participate in musical theatre, join school choirs, and compete in the Durham Regional Choir Festival.
Our music is also a reflection of our faith. Most of the vocal music is Christian in content, incorporating a wide range of styles of music both Christian and secular.
Worship assemblies are held on the second Friday of each month. The entire school meets together along with any parents who are able to attend. Worship assemblies make use of music, drama and the sharing of Biblical truth. Classes take turns participating in these programs.
